NASCAR throws red flag, puts FireKeepers Casino 400 on hold due to Michigan weather
After a delay before the start of the FireKeepers Casino 400, the race has officially been halted 52 laps in with a red flag due to incoming weather. The drivers have brought their vehicles to pit road to be covered.
NASCAR will then notify the teams when they can return to the cars to get the covers off in the event of a restart.
A large cell of weather with some yellow on the radar was incoming at the time the cars came back to pit road. Drivers never got back to racing after Stage 1 ended.
The first stage ended in interesting fashion, as leader Bubba Wallace and several others near the front of the field opted to go to pit road for fuel with just a few laps remaining in the stage.
That allowed Ryan Blaney to take the Stage 1 win, though Wallace pushed back up to P4 to secure some vital points as he battles the playoff cut line.
Others that earned stage points early on at the FireKeepers Casino 400 were P2 Chase Elliott, P3 William Byron, P5 Chris Buescher, P6 Kyle Busch, P7 Brad Keselowski, P8 Martin Truex Jr., P9 Alex Bowman and P10 Ross Chastain.

FireKeepers Casino 400 claims Denny Hamlin
Just before the end of the first stage Denny Hamlin attempted to make a move on Wallace for the lead. He got behind Wallace and got into a bad aero spot, losing his handle.
Hamlin’s car then spun around, reaching the infield quickly as he skidded across the surface.
The talented veteran driver noted some minor damage underneath the car, but not necessarily anything he felt was a major concern, he told the USA broadcast.
After spinning, Hamlin keyed up his radio to apologize to his team.
“Sorry about that Chris [Gabeheart] F**k, I should have taken what I had,” Hamlin was heard saying by Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut.
“Yeah, we still had time but we make mistakes and move on,” the veteran crew chief replied.
The latest time the FireKeepers Casino 400 can run is 8:20 p.m. ET. The race will be official if it has completed 100 laps by that point.
