Following the death of longtime cancer fighter and research advocate Sherry Pollex, NASCAR is honoring her at Texas. As the Cup Series prepares to start the Round of 12, cars will be shown featuring memorial decals for Pollex.

Right behind the NASCAR logo and Round of 12 stickers for the playoff drivers, a ribbon featuring Sherry Pollex’s name and “In memory 1979-2023” will be featured. Pollex was a fixture in the NASCAR garage for years.

Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports got video of a few cars featuring the decals. Today cars are going through tech and inspection. On Saturday, practice and qualifying will be underway. I’m sure that we will see these decals throughout the weekend.

Sherry Pollex meant a lot to so many in NASCAR. This is a great way to honor her life and work.

Sherry Pollex passed away five days ago on Sunday, September 17. During her life, she invested her own time and energy into helping those who needed it most. Her work advocating for pediatric and ovarian cancer patients, as well as her own defiant battle with ovarian cancer, made her an icon in NASCAR.

Following her death, many in the NASCAR world put out messages of support, shared memories of Sherry, and more. Of course, she was the long-time girlfriend of Martin Truex Jr. who also released a statement regarding Pollex’s death.

It wasn’t long before NASCAR released their own statement on Sherry Pollex’s death. Her family wanted fans and those who were inspired by her to remember her for all the good she did. Her legacy is going to last for many more years as her hard work made ripple effects across the sport and beyond.

This was the statement released by NASCAR on Sunday.

“NASCAR is saddened to learn of the passing of Sherry Pollex, whose fight against cancer and determination to help others through the Sherry Strong Foundation was an inspiration to all who knew her. NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation’s thoughts and prayers are with Sherry’s family and friends.”

Despite her passing, Sherry Pollex will have a presence in the garage this weekend. A bitter-sweet, but mostly bitter, reminder of who the sport lost this week. Our thoughts are with the Pollex family as they go through this difficult time.

Sherry Pollex was 44 years old at the time of her death. She was a force and a fierce fighter when it came to her battle with cancer.
