Exciting times were had in Illinois, and now the NASCAR Cup Series will return to road course racing this weekend, as the campaign moves forward to Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota/Save Mart 350.

Last season’s victor at Sonoma was Martin Truex Jr., and the No. 19 wheelman is in search of his first win of the 2024 campaign at the moment. Will he be able to get the job done this weekend in California, or will other road course savants, like Chris Buescher, Chase Elliott or Michael McDowell spoil the party? It’ll certainly be an unpredictable event.

Similar to Austin Cindric last weekend, we could see an unexpected wheelman crash the Cup Series playoffs party with a win this weekend. Here are the full betting line for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 this weekend, courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook. There’s some money to be made on this event.

Martin Truex Jr. (+600)

Sunday afternoon in Illinois was a race Martin Truex Jr. would like to forget. The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran ended up finishing P34 on the day, certainly not what the No. 19 would’ve preferred coming into the weekend.

Last season, Truex Jr. was victorious during the Cup Series’ trip to Sonoma. A win was never more needed by the Joe Gibbs Racing wheelman, and he’ll hope to take the checkered flag once again on Sunday.

Christopher Bell (+750)

Christopher Bell looked like he was on his way towards back-to-back wins after finding victory during the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600 the weekend prior, but his engine let him down during a battle with Ryan Blaney. Regardless, Bell still came home with a top ten, finishing P7.

Now, Bell will turn his attention to Sonoma, where he finished P9 last season. The Joe Gibbs Racing wheelman will be looking to continue his success on road courses in California when the green-flag drops.

William Byron (+750)

William Byron’s championship odds remained the same after a P15 finish in Illinois. He didn’t exactly have an eventful afternoon, but he secured a finish that you can’t simply complain about afterwards, at the least.

Alas, Byron has a win on the only other road course NASCAR has run in 2024, as the No. 24 dominated at COTA. A similar result wouldn’t be out of the question for the Hendrick Motorsports star.

Kyle Larson (+750)

The idea of being denied a playoff waiver weighed heavy on Kyle Larson’s mind in Illinois, but it was made official he will be eligible to race for the championship on Tuesday morning. He still battled for a top ten in Illinois, finishing P10.

Road-course racing hasn’t exactly been easy for Larson, but he did win an Xfinity Series race at COTA earlier this season, and he finished P8 in Sonoma last season. There’s some merit towards seeing him in victory lane.

Ty Gibbs (+750)

Ty Gibbs has been majorly impressive throughout his sophomore campaign. Over the weekend in Illinois, the No. 54 wheelman narrowly avoided hitting his tire changer (and ironically enough, his cousin) during a pit stop, and he came home P11 during an eventful but successful afternoon.

Last season, Gibbs finished P18 during the Cup Series’ trip to Sonoma. If he wishes to make the Cup Series playoffs for the first time in his career, a win would lock him in, and he has a golden opportunity to get one in California this weekend.

Chase Elliott (+950)

Once again, Chase Elliott barely missed a top ten, which seems to be happening a lot to the No. 9 over the course of 2024. Still, he finished P13 in Illinois, a solid afternoon for the sport’s most popular driver.

Throughout his career, Elliott has become known as a road course savant. He finished P5 during NASCAR’s date in Sonoma last season, so he’ll be looking for more this time around, as he looks to add to his win total.

Tyler Reddick (+950)

The No. 45 of Tyler Reddick enjoyed success in Illinois. The 23XI Racing wheelman finished P4 on the afternoon, a more than solid finish for the driver who’s turning himself into a contender week-in and week-out.

While Reddick is usually a huge threat on road courses, he finished P33 in Sonoma last season. We’ll see if he can bounce back with a better run when the Cup Series returns to California this weekend.

Chris Buescher (+1300)

Chris Buescher Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Buescher came home P14 during NASCAR’s trip to Illinois over the weekend. He showed some speed at times, but he was never really able to put it all together. Still, the RFK Racing driver came home with a respectable finish on the afternoon, as you can tell.

During his trips to Sonoma, Buescher has always come close to winning, and usually he finds a way to finish near the top. Last season, the RFK Racing wheelman came home P4, so he’ll be looking for his first win of 2024 at the track on Sunday, as it’s been eluding him by inches so far this season.

Alas, this weekend’s race at Sonoma should be a fascinating one, as per usual for the road course. It’s been a staple on NASCAR’s schedule for a number of seasons, and each driver in the field would love to be able to say they’ve won at the track. Only one will be able to make the claim for the 2024 campaign, we’ll see who comes out on top.
