NASCAR updates power rankings ahead of Verizon 200 at the Brickyard
NASCAR‘s 2023 regular season is winding down. Playoff positions are at a premium and drivers on the cusp are running out of opportunities to solidify their spot in the Cup Series postseason. Others have a pretty good hold on their spot heading into the Verizon 200 this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Prior to Sunday’s race in Indianapolis, NASCAR updated its power rankings for the season. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Martin Truex Jr. sits atop those standings.
Here’s a look at the top-10 from NASCAR ahead of this Sunday’s Verizon 200 race:
- Martin Truex Jr.
- Denny Hamlin
- Kyle Larson
- Kevin Harvick
- William Byron
- Kyle Busch
- Chris Buescher
- Ross Chastain
- Christopher Bell
- Brad Keselowski
Not only does Truex own three wins this season, he’s a pretty dominant road course driver. So it comes as no surprise that he’s the betting favorite (4-1 odds) to claim the checkered flag at the Verizon 200 on Sunday.
Another solid road course driver, Tyler Reddick, was last year’s winner in Indianapolis and is listed at 11-2 odds to win the race. Chase Elliott owns the third-best odds at 15-2 to get a win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, according to BetMGM.
In addition to his spot atop NASCAR’s power rankings, Truex currently owns the Cup Series points lead.

Racing Insights projects order of finish for Verizon 200
Not to sound overly cliche, but NASCAR doesn’t run the races on paper. But it’s still fun to look ahead and project potential outcomes for the Cup Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Racing Insights provided a complete order of finish for Sunday’s Verizon 200. We won’t run down the entire grid, but here’s a look at how it projects the top-10 for the race:
- Tyler Reddick
- Kyle Larson
- Chris Buescher
- AJ Allmendinger
- Chase Elliott
- Shane van Gisbergen
- Kyle Busch
- William Byron
- Martin Truex Jr.
- Michael McDowell
Racing insights expects Reddick to repeat as the champion at the Brickyard. Truex is surprisingly low on this list, considering his success at road courses. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares come Sunday afternoon.
The Verizon 200 is one of the last regular season races of the season, which should lead to some intense racing on Sunday. It could be a lot of fun to watch.
Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race from IMS begins at 2:30 p.m. ET. The event airs on NBC.
