NASCAR has been working on the track to get it ready to race on and the Grant Park 220 in Chicago is now going to start shortly. After officials finally got a break in the weather, they were able to clear the track and now a start time of 6:15 PM EST is set for the Cup Series event.
The Cup Series will take to the streets of Chicago tonight. NASCAR has a start time of 6:15 PM EST. That means we are going to see the rain tires make an appearance. I would be shocked to see slick tires used in this one.
So, the Chicago Street Race is going to go green. Now the Grant Park 220 just has to worry about the sunlight. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports shared the news.
The Grant Park 220 has been pushed back and put on hold. Now we finally have a shot at seeing it go green. NASCAR has put a lot of work into the Chicago Street Race. They want it to go well and so does the city of Chicago. Mother Nature has not been cooperative today or this weekend. But you make the most of what you have.
With the Xfinity Series race called early, it would be hard to see the Cup Series race meet a similar fate. Let’s hope that the race is able to beat out the sunset and get to 100 laps before darkness takes over the city.

Grant Park 220 going green in Chicago
While some drivers might have liked to have raced on Monday, it isn’t going to happen. NASCAR wants to get this event done and get it over with. Not for bad reasons. In fact, it is likely so they can stay on Chicago’s good side. As a guest you never want to overstay your welcome, after all.
Denny Hamlin was a driver who wanted to see the postponed news come down. However, the pole sitter will have to defend his position in the rain. He will have his own driver, Tyler Reddick, right behind him and waiting to pounce on any mistake he makes.
Not to mention, Shane van Gisbergen is going to be running him down on the wet streets of Chicago. The Supercars champion from New Zealand showed that he can learn quickly. He’s been fantastic in his first runs in the Next Gen car.
Keep an eye on this race. We could see a ton of chaos throughout the event as the rain tires are put on the cars. NASCAR is going to get this race green and we are almost ready to go racing!
