Nate Wiggins not expected to play after car accident, confirmed healthy by John Harbaugh
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh revealed Friday that rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins was involved in a car accident earlier this week.
Wiggins suffered a neck injury in the accident and will not play in Sunday’s Week 2 home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Nate was in a car accident a couple of days ago,” Harbaugh said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “They were kind of working through it. Looks like he’s not gonna make it to the game, so he’ll be out for this game. He’s fine. He’s healthy, he’s fine. Just not gonna be able to play.”
Nate Wiggins impressive in NFL debut vs. Chiefs
Wiggins, Baltimore’s first round selection (30th overall) out of Clemson, missed the last two days of practice with the injury. He logged 17 snaps in Baltimore’s 27-20 Week 1 road defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, surrendering just one catch for one yard. Wiggins recorded a 76.9 coverage grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Defensive coordinator Zach Orr said this week that Wiggins will continue to get more playing time as he grows into the defense.
“Nate’s going to be fine,” Orr said, via the team’s official website. “Nate’s going to play a lot of football for us. He’s going to play a lot of great football for us. I think [he’s going to] just continue to come in and continue to work. And he played well in the [Kansas City] game as well. The better he plays, the more he’s going to be out there.”
