National Championship Odds: Betting favorites to win College Football Playoff after Week 6
The College Football Playoff national championship odds have been updated after a wild weekend of action. Ohio State is still the favorite to win the national title, and the odds for the Buckeyes have come down after they pounded Iowa on Saturday — the same day that five of the top 11 ranked teams in the country lost.
Still, there are plenty of other contenders for the national championship after FanDuel adjusted its odds following this past week of games.
Under the new College Football Playoff format, the five highest-ranked conference champions will receive automatic bids. After that, the next seven highest-ranked teams will complete the field.
Ohio State’s odds dropped from +370 to +290, while Texas and Georgia replaced Alabama as having the second-best odds to win the national championship following the Crimson Tide’s lost to Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Longhorns and Bulldogs are both +450.
You can view the full odds to win the 2024 College Football Playoff, according to FanDuel, below:
+290 Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes haven’t played the toughest schedule in the country, but they have handled every test with ease thus far. Ohio State has won every game this season by at least 28 points, including this past weekend against Iowa.
Quarterback Will Howard threw for as many touchdowns as he had incompletions against the Hawkeyes with four of each. Ohio State also rushed for more than 200 yards and forced three turnovers. There’s no doubt that the Buckeyes look like legit national championship contenders right now.
+450 Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns saw their odds to win the College Football Playoff improve, despite being on a bye this past weekend. Texas is another team that has been dominant throughout the season as Steve Sarkisian’s club is 5-0 with ever win coming by at least 19 points.
Texas could get tested this weekend against an Oklahoma team that is struggling offensively but has been sound defensively. The Sooners beat Texas in the Red River Rivalry last season and UT would love to get revenge.
+450 Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia is right there with Texas at +450, despite losing to Alabama earlier this season. Even in the loss the Bulldogs were impressive, fighting back from a 28-0 deficit to take the lead late before dropping a heartbreaker.
Georgia’s 31-point win over Clemson also continues to look better and better, and there’s no doubt the Bulldogs are talented. Is Georgia good enough to win a national title? Kirby Smart’s team certainly look capable at this point.
+650 Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama suffered a stunning loss to Vanderbilt over the weekend and the Crimson Tide fell from being one of the favorites to win the national championship to having the fourth-best odds. Jalen Milroe is playing well and is a Heisman contender, but the Crimson Tide defense needs some serious work after being gashed by Vandy.
Alabama has one of the best wins in the country after beating Georgia and also has tough games coming up at top-20 opponents in Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma. As long as Alabama doesn’t lose all three of those games the Crimson Tide should have a strong chance to make the CFP and will be a team no one wants to see if they do.
+1000 Oregon Ducks
Oregon is a team that everyone seemed to be high on in the preseason. However, the Ducks got off to a bit of a slow start. Yes, the Ducks are undefeated, but they played Idaho and Boise State close to open the year.
Oregon is coming off of a solid 31-10 win over Michigan State this past weekend. We should learn a ton about the Ducks when they host Ohio State on Saturday.

+1600 Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss dropped its first real test of the season against Kentucky on Sept. 28, before bouncing back to dominate South Carolina in Columbia this past weekend. The Rebels have another tough road test this Saturday when they play at LSU.
Ole Miss has one of the best rosters in the country, and Lane Kiffin loaded up in the transfer portal for 2024. We will know soon if that leads to the Rebels making the College Football Playoff and potentially making a run at the national championship.
+1800 Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State has quietly gotten off to a 5-0 start, with four of its five wins coming by double digits. The Nittany Lions did struggle with Bowling Green, which is likely why their odds to win the national title aren’t better.
Still, Penn State has one of the top defenses in the country and has been getting strong play from quarterback Drew Allar. If he can keep that up, James Franklin’s club could make some real noise this year.
+2000 Miami Hurricanes
Miami could easily have two losses right now, but the Hurricanes found a way to escape against Virginia Tech and Cal in back-to-back weeks. Cam Ward has been one of the top quarterbacks in the country this season and is playing like a Heisman contender.
If the defense can be more consistent, perhaps Miami can indeed compete for a College Football Playoff championship. Miami and Clemson seem to be the class of the ACC at this point.
+2000 Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee’s odds of winning the national title dropped from +1000 to +2000 after the Vols were upset by Arkansas on Saturday. The Tennessee offense managed only 14 points in the defeat.
The Vols still have games against Georgia and Alabama coming up, and they may need to win both of those to get into the CFP. If not, what appeared to be a promising season could end in disappointment.
+2500 Clemson Tigers
Clemson was counted out after losing its opener to Georgia, but the Tigers have been dominant since. Dabo Swinney’s club is 4-1 on the year, with all four wins coming by at least 16 points.
If Cade Klubnik can continue to play at a high level, Clemson could very well face off against Miami in the ACC title game. Swinney would love nothing more than to prove that his way of doing things still works.
