National Championship Odds: Betting favorites updated after Week 7 of college football
Every weekend more and more teams across the college football landscape improve their resumes and help make their cases as one of the top teams in the country. Several are making it known that they should be in consideration for the new, expanded 12-team College Football Playoff with a chance to compete for a national title.
As a result, the betting odds for teams to take home a national championship this season are constantly shifting. With the favorites to hoist a national title trophy in January changing yet again this weekend following a stellar Week 7 of action.
FanDuel Sportsbook has officially updated their national championship odds now that Week 7 is wrapped up. Check out the latest betting favorites to win this year’s natty below.
Texas Longhorns (+400)
Texas finds themselves back at the top of the odds after dropping to the No. 2 spot last weekend during their bye week. This comes after the Longhorns made easy work of rival Oklahoma on Saturday in a dominant 34-3 win in the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Rivalry.
The top-ranked Longhorns remain undefeated and at the top of the AP Poll for the fourth time this season following Week 7. Now looking ahead to their largest test of the year this weekend when they host the next team on FanDuel’s list.
Georgia Bulldogs (+450)
Georgia continues to put their lone loss of the season to Alabama behind them following an absolute thriller in Tuscaloosa. Since then, the Bulldogs have won two straight after defeating Mississippi State in a 41-31 victory at home in Athens.
Georgia’s road to another national championship may be tougher than others, facing No. 1 Texas this Saturday in one of their three remaining games against a ranked opponent. But there’s no doubt that the Bulldogs can’t be counted out after winning two of the last three national titles.
Ohio State Buckeyes (+450)
The Buckeyes are currently tied with Georgia at +450 odds despite suffering their first loss of the season this weekend. Ohio State dropped a heartbreaker on the road to Oregon in a 32-31 loss that represented one of the best college football games of the season.
The Buckeyes still have one of the most talented rosters in college football and was just a few plays away from defeating the Ducks. Very much poised to appear in the Big Ten Championship game and make a run at the national title.
Oregon Ducks (+550)
Oregon jumps from +1000 odds to +550 to win the natty following their impressive win over Ohio State. The Ducks also took over the Buckeyes’ No. 2 ranking in the latest AP Poll in the process as one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the country.
The Ducks saw their odds take significant hits early in the season following close wins over Idaho and Boise State. But have now found their rhythm and definitely look like national title contenders moving forward this year.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+1000)
Alabama’s odds took a major hit following their upset loss to Vanderbilt in Week 6. And their narrow 27-25 win over South Carolina didn’t do them any favors either, dropping from +650 to +1000.
After arguably looking like the best team in the entire country in the first half against Georgia, the Crimson Tide have looked much different in their last 10 quarters of football. Displaying a high ceiling and a low floor this season as one of the most fascinating teams to watch.
Penn State Nittany Lions (+1200)
One of the biggest wins of the weekend came in Los Angeles when Penn State was able to defeat USC in overtime. A hard-fought game that places the Nittany Lions firmly in the upper echelon of national championship contenders.

Many viewed Penn State as a major beneficiary of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff. But they now find themselves as the No. 3 ranked team in the country that could even compete for a first-round bye in the CFP.
Clemson Tigers (+1400)
Many wrote the Clemson Tigers off following their disappointing 34-3 loss to Georgia to kick off the college football season in Week 1. But since then the Tigers have run the table and boast one of the best offenses in the country.
The remainder of Clemson’s schedule is carves out a fairly easy path to the ACC Championship game once again. And their national championship pedigree alone may be the reason why they have better odds then the next team on the list.
Miami Hurricanes (+2000)
Miami had a bye in Week 7 following thrilling back-to-back games to open up conference play. Coming from behind against Virginia Tech and Cal to remain undefeated and one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the sport.
The way the Hurricanes have gone about winning is definitely an area of concern regarding their journey to and through the CFP. But with a loaded roster and the nation’s current passing leader, there’s definitely a path for The U to be back.
Tennessee Volunteers (+2000)
Tennessee finds themselves in similar shoes as Alabama. Following an upset loss with a non-convincing win after defeating Florida in overtime on Saturday following a loss to Arkansas in Week 6.
The Vols still boast one of the most impressive defensive units in the country through the first half of the season. But improved play from their offense and the development of redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava would take their playoff and national title hopes a long way.
Ole Miss Rebels (+3500)
Ole Miss is the only two-loss team in the Top 10 of FanDuel’s odds following an overtime loss on the road against LSU on Saturday. The Rebels are officially in a must-win situation going forward in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Ole Miss has all the pieces to be a true College Football Playoff contender but have fallen short in some crucial moments this year. This will necessitate the Rebels playing their best football and get some help from other teams in order to compete for a national championship.
