NBA announces All-NBA teams for 2021-22 season

The NBA has announced the 15 players which make up the three 2021-22 All-NBA teams, rounding out those eligible for larger contract extensions behind MVP Nikola Jokic. With three first-time members of the exclusive group, the list features several young stars from around the league.

The 2021-22 All-NBA first team is headlined by MVP and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. He is joined by Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic and Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

The second team features first-time All-NBA selection Ja Morant, who is now eligible for a rookie extension worth more than $200 million with the Memphis Grizzlies. He is joined by Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant, Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns now qualifies for the supermax contract extension after making the third All-NBA team. He is joined by Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam, Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young.

Thanks to their regular season performances, Booker becomes eligible for the supermax contract and Young is eligible for the 30-percent max.

The NBA also released a staggering statistic about this year’s group, revealing that the All-NBA first team is made up of five players under the age of 27 for the first time since the 1954-55 season. In addition, the league released the breakdown of votes for each player.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was the only unanimous first-team player, receiving 100 votes for a final point total of 500. Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic tied for second with 476 points. The duo was joined by Joel Embiid as the only players to receive 100 votes for the top two teams.

Embiid also finished with more points than Jayson Tatum, but did not move to the first team due to position requirements. Other players receiving first-team votes include Ja Morant, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, DeMar DeRozan and LeBron James.

Every player, outside of Antetokounmpo, received at least one second-team vote. All five first-team players were also selected on 100-percent of ballots as All-NBA players, in addition to Embiid, Durant and Curry.
