The Minnesota Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards, left Game 1 of their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers with a big win to open the playoffs. However, it was not without controversy as Anthony Edwards had plenty to say to the home crowd at Crypto.com Arena.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the NBA has fined Edwards a total of $50,000 for comments made to the crowd in LA. It took place at the scorer’s table where, in a back-and-forth with some fans, Edwards twice said, “my d*** bigger than yours.”

“Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined $50,000 for directing inappropriate language and making an obscene gesture toward a fan, it was announced today by Byron Spruell, President, League Operations,” the NBA shared today in a release.

It’s unclear what started the exchange between the crowd and the players coming out of the timeout in the third quarter. The assumption is it was related to Rudy Gobert and his contract earnings. Edwards then got more vulgar, though, with his words as well as his motion.

This isn’t the first time that the league has had to address Edwards’ behavior. The league has now fined him several hundred thousand dollars just this season for issues related to ejections or profanity. He has also earned a league-high of 17 technical fouls.

Besides that, Minnesota had a lot to be proud of in Game 1. The Wolves went on the road and won 117-95 over the Lakers to take a 1-0 series lead in the first round of the Playoffs. They shot better than 50% from the field and from three, with 21 makes from distance, as a team in the 22-point win. Jaden McDaniels (25 points, 84.6% FG, nine rebounds), Naz Reid (23 points, 66.7% FG), and Julius Randle (16 points, 54.5% FG, five rebounds, five assists) played well as their bigs, as that trio combined to shoot 13-18 from three, while Edwards nearly posted a triple double with 22 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.

The Timberwolves, namely Edwards, could get even more cocky if they were to have a similar performance in Game 2 to take a 2-0 lead before heading back to Minnesota. He may tone it down a bit, though, considering what this incident cost him with this fine.
