Since 2013, the series has been dominated by the Hawkeyes having won nine of the last 11 matchups. However, Friday night’s matchup will be the 14th annual matchup between the two programs.
The last matchup came during the 2023 season finale, which saw the Hawkeyes defeat the Cornhuskers in a low-scoring 13-10 win. The late-season game clinched Iowa’s spot in the Big Ten title game and marked the 10th win of the season for Iowa last season.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz was emotional after last year’s hard-fought win, alluding to just how much the victory meant to him and his team.
Whether that outcome repeats itself, or Nebraska picks up a pivotal win to end the regular season remains to be seen. However, the last time the game was played in Iowa City saw the Cornhuskers upset the Hawkeyes 24-17 in 2022.
