The Chicago Bears selected Rome Odunze in the NFL Draft this past weekend, and he already hates the Green Bay Packers. While appearing on the Talk 2 Me Show, the former Washington Huskies wide receiver talked about his first day hating the Bears’ arch-rival.

“First day hating the Packers, I already can’t stand them,” Odunze said. “Every time I see Green, I nearly puke.”

Odunze’s comments had a lot of fans talking. One person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “This is the difference between good and bad franchises Bad franchises focus on beating good ones, good franchises focus on winning titles.”

Another person on X added: “Packers fans claiming they don’t care while simultaneously caring enough to find this post and respond to it.”

The Packers and Bears have been playing football for over 100 years and have faced each other 206 times, The Packers have won 106 of the matchups, but the two teams only faced each other in the playoffs twice with each team franchise winning one game. Recently, the Packers have won the last 10 meetings against the Bears. The last time Chicago took down Green Bay was in December 2018.

Rome Odunze is ready to do big things in Chicago

Odunze was selected No. 9 overall by the Bears on Thursday night. He will join former USC quarterback Caleb Williams who was selected No. 1 overall by Chicago. Odunze joins the Bears after catching 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. His production helped the Huskies reach the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

While speaking to reporters on Friday, Odunze shared his excitement about playing in Chicago. “I definitely had the mindset to be happy wherever I went, but in the back of my mind [I knew] the Bears visit went tremendously well,” Odunze said, per the Bears’ official website. “I came into this facility and the attitude and the effort that they put into my visit and into the conversations that we had was incredible. I knew when that phone call came in, it was from Illinois and that it was going to be the Bears, and I was super excited.”

The 21-year-old receiver also talked about playing with Williams. “Very special and a very unique skill set,” he said. “When you watch him play, there are things he can do on the field you don’t see any other quarterback doing. He brings a unique skill set. He’s very confident in the pocket, very confident extending a play, and the play is never over until the whistle is blown, you know that.”
