New details emerge after New York Jets fire Robert Saleh

New details are emerging about the New York Jets firing head coach Robert Saleh. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Saleh came into the building on Wednesday not expecting to be let go. The decision to fire him was a surprise and it came directly from ownership. Schultz also said the Jets’ defensive players were surprised by the decision.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the interim head coach, and Schultz said he is loved in the building. However, many inside the building are shocked by the move.
The firing comes after the Jets lost to the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday. Though five games this year, the Jets are 2-3 and one game behind the Buffalo Bills for the lead in the AFC East. Saleh was hired by the Jets in 2021 and has posted a 20-36 record as the team’s head coach.
Saleh’s time with the Jets was marked by a strong defense and inconsistent quarterback play. When Saleh was hired, the Jets drafted Zach Wilson No. 2 overall. Wilson struggled and was benched last year for Aaron Rodgers, who the team traded for during the offseason. However, Rodgers injured his Achilles in the season opener and missed the rest of the year. Rodgers has played five games this year and has thrown for 1,093 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions with an 81.6 passer rating.

Why the New York Jets fired Robert Saleh
ESPN’s Adam Schefter appeared on First Take and explained why the Jets fired Saleh. “I think that they believe that they have a really good team,” Schefter said. “I think that they think this team, especially in that division, can compete to win the division, and it wasn’t performing the way that everybody expected. If we watch this team, everybody would admit every Jet fan, it looked off. They lost at home to Denver. They lost to Minnesota. What’s odd is, in this day and age, in the National Football League, there are peaks and valleys to every team season.
“Everybody goes through them, but with the pressure in New York, I just feel like they felt like this is a team that should be performing better, winning more often, and Woody Johnson didn’t want to squander what could potentially be the last year of Aaron Rodgers career.”
