Chiefs receiver Justyn Ross isn’t allowed to practice or play with his team following his arrest last month. And now details are emerging at what led to his arrest on domestic battery charges.

Ross was arrested Oct. 23 in a Kansas City suburb on one count of domestic battery with no priors and one count of criminal damage to property. Police said the property damage totaled less than $1,000. Both charges are misdemeanors.

TMZ secured the arrest affidavit for Justyn Ross from police in Johnson County, Kansas. The alleged incident happened Oct. 23. According to the court documents, witnesses told police that Ross pushed his girlfriend after he learned she cheated on him. Police said he damaged her car with a knife and threw her belongings at her. Police said the woman suffered a “small scratch” on her hand.

Justyn Ross, the former Clemson star, is in his second year with the Chiefs. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The woman said he damaged her laptop, iPhone, keys to her car, a computer monitor and gold bracelet. The court documents stated that Ross told police that he did damage the laptop, but said it was his. He said he didn’t damage any of the woman’s belongings.

The Chiefs are in Frankfurt, Germany, to play the Miami Dolphins. Kansas City coach Andy Reid address the Justyn Ross situation before the team left for Europe. The NFL placed Ross on the commissoner’s exempt list. He’ll still be paid while he’s on the list, but Ross doesn’t count towards the active roster.

“We’ll just let it play out, that’s the way it goes,” Reid told reporters. “That’s what that list is for until all the information is gathered.”

Playing in a reserve role, Justyn Ross has caught three passes for 34 yards this season. The Chiefs signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and then placed him on injured reserve. At one time, NFL draft experts projected Ross as an elite NFL prospect as early as his freshman year at Clemson.

He was dazzling as a freshman. Who doesn’t remember his incredible run through the college football playoffs? In a semifinal win over Notre Dame, Ross caught six passes for 148 yards and two long touchdowns. In Clemson’s national title win over Alabama, Ross caught six passes from fellow freshman Trevor Lawrence for 153 yards and a touchdown.

But a congenital back/neck condition and a foot injury nearly stopped his career. Before this preseason, Ross hadn’t caught a pass in a competitive game in nearly two years. He’s appeared in seven games this season for the Chiefs.
