New development emerges in Tennessee Titans decision between drafting Cam Ward, trading first pick

The Tennessee Titans are deciding on if they want to draft Cam Ward or trade the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Titans will hold an additional private workout with the former Miami Hurricanes quarterback while listening to other teams about a trade.
“The Titans have become increasingly impressed with Ward and, while they are expected to listen to offers for the No. 1 overall pick, it now would take an even stronger package to acquire the draft’s top selection,” Schefter wrote on X/Twitter. The news of the workout comes after Cam Ward worked out in front of the Titans during Miami’s Pro Day on Monday.
It’s likely the Titans will take Ward at No. 1 overall when the draft takes place in Green Bay next month. But if they do trade the pick, it’s likely the Titans will get a lot in return, including multiple first-round picks.
Why Cam Ward wants to play for the Titans
After Miami’s Pro Day, Ward talked about speaking to Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker after completing a pass. “[I told them] ‘I’m solidifying it today,'” Ward said, per ESPN. “They finally got to see me throw in person. That should be all they need to see. But at the end of the day … I’m going to be happy whatever team I go to. I’m just trying to play football.”

Ward also talked about potentially working with Titans head coach Brian Callahan. “I think Coach Callahan’s one of the best head coaches out there. The things he did with Joe Burrow when he first got into the league made him be real successful,” Ward said. “I just think the playbooks match up not only for there, but Cleveland and New York. A lot of those three teams did the same things that we did in Miami. So I think it’ll be plug and play.”
Cam Ward played just one season with the Miami Hurricanes but made a huge impact. The 22-year-old was named ACC Player of the Year and won the Davey O’Brien and Manning Award in 2024 after throwing for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns while completing 67.2 percent of his passes.
