The New England Patriots have selected Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. They took him with the No. 137 overall pick.

Farmer spent four seasons at Florida State, where he turned into a reliable interior defender. By the end of his career, he’d emerged as a disruptive force on the interior.

In 2024, Joshua Farmer recorded 32 tackles, 8.0 tackles for a loss and 4.0 sacks. Each of those figure was a career high for him.

In sum total in his career, Farmer logged 74 tackles, 20.0 tackles for a loss, 4.0 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defended. He had a hand in making many more plays defensively, able to take up gaps and allow his teammates to make plays.

Prior to enrolling at Florida State, Joshua Farmer was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 679 overall recruit in the country in the On3 Industry Rankings. He also checked in as the No. 72 EDGE defender in his class and the No. 89 overall player in the state of Florida, hailing from Apalachicola (FL) Gadsen County.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Joshua Farmer

One of the best attributes Joshua Farmer brings to the table is his sheer size. He’s listed at 6 foot 3, 305 pounds but has a very broad frame.

He’s able to eat space well, something analysts and scouts alike have pointed out. The NFL Network’s Lance Zierlein wrote the following in evaluating Farmer as a prospect:

“Broad-shouldered interior defender worth consideration as a 3-4 end or a 4-3 interior lineman. Farmer needs to play as a two-gapper who muddies the pocket. He’s powerful, with long arms and strong hands.

“His anchor is average but should improve if he’s allowed to use that length to gain early control at the point of attack. There is nothing tricky about his rush, but he can jar blockers backward with a single punch. His traits will be coveted but his upside might be as a rotational defender with average starting potential.”
