After watching Patrick Mahomes lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory on one ankle (essentially), we’ve all gathered that he’s a pretty tough dude. But Netflix’s new docu-series, Quarterback, shows just how far the two-time NFL MVP is willing to go to stay on the field.

Mahomes initially suffered an injury during Kansas City’s AFC Divisional Round game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The incident occurred in the first half, leading head coach Andy Reid to make the difficult decision to sideline his star QB temporarily.

Mahomes was not happy. The clip below shows the two-time Super Bowl winner making his plea to stay in the game, while Reid and other assistants urged the quarterback to get an X-ray.

“I’m going to take you out here,” Reid says to Mahomes. That’s when he started making his plea.

“No. F*** no. I’m good. Hell no,” Mahomes says. “Hell no. F*** no. No, not a chance. I gotta get one more drive, at least. No way.”

When everyone urges Mahomes to get an X-ray, he claims he’ll get it done at halftime. Ultimately, the coaches won out and the quarterback went back to the locker room to get his injury looked at further.

Mahomes then returned to the game, though he was limping onto the field.

These are the types of moments fans rarely see on the sidelines. It provides a perspective unseen to most of us, showing us just how much guys like Mahomes love to be on the field, even when injured.

‘Quarterback’ premiered recently on Netflix

The clip of Mahomes’ sideline plea comes from Netflix’s Quarterback, which highlights three different NFL quarterbacks. The documentary series dropped on the streaming service on July 12.

Along with Mahomes, the show also follows Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons.

“Go inside the huddle and into the homes of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota in this candid docuseries following their 2022-23 NFL season,” the Netflix description reads.

Though Netflix has gained a lot of traction for similar documentaries, this is the first year to run one focused on NFL quarterbacks. The show follows Mahomes, Cousins and Mariota through eight episodes.

This is the kind of access that sports fans love to see. And with football a little less than two months away, this type of show would certainly fill that football fix for the time being.
