New Orleans Saints, Alvin Kamara agree to terms on two-year contract extension, per report
After plenty of back and forth over the past few weeks, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has his extension with the franchise.
According to a report from Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Kamara and the Saints have agreed on a two-year, $24.5 million extension that will put the talented playmaker under contract through 2026.
The deal was confirmed by Kamara’s agent, Brad Cicala of Quality Control Sports.
The hold-up with Kamara’s deal was something the running back had to push back on, with rumors circulating that he was seeking a trade recently. Kamara quickly shot down those trade rumors.
But the drama around his potential extension dates all the way back to training camp, where Kamara reportedly considered holding out. He obviously didn’t end up doing that in the long run.
At the time, though, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on his status.
“Alvin Kamara, who’s got two years left on his contract, he wants a reworked deal,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “The problem is in 2025 he’s due $25 million of non-guaranteed money. That’s not tenable for either party. So Kamara would be open to a reworked two year deal with some stronger guarantees. Christian McCaffrey got something done with the 49ers recently, so that maybe resets the market for the running back position a little bit for Kamara.

“So not really much traction here between the two sides. They’re going to try to work something out. But you know, he didn’t show up for the last day of minicamp, maybe he doesn’t show up for the first day of training camp.”
It’ll be interesting to see the details of Alvin Kamara’s new contract extension, but suffice it to say that the Saints got their guy.
A former third-round NFL Draft pick out of Tennessee in 2017, Kamara has been a monster since entering the league.
He was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017, and he has twice been named a second-team All-Pro (2017 and 2020). He has also been named to five Pro Bowl teams.
