New Orleans Saints release former Texas Longhorns running back Malcolm Brown
Former Texas Longhorns running back Malcolm Brown is back on the market. According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the New Orleans Saints have cut Brown, terminating his contract.
The Saints brought in the former Longhorn in late July to compete for the third running back spot behind duo Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. And with Kamara facing a possible suspension following an incident in Las Vegas over the summer, whoever won the third string position would definitely see ample opportunity should the former Tennessee Volunteers star get suspended. And we now know that Brown is out of New Orleans and out of the mix for the Saints.
Brown spent last season with the Miami Dolphins after spending the first six years of his career with the Los Angeles Rams. In Miami, he played in seven games and had three starts with 36 rushing attempts for 135 yards and a touchdown. He has amassed 1,313 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 331 attempts for his career.
Brown was not the only casualty of the Saints roster moves on Wednesday. New Orleans also waived cornerback Bryce Thompson with an injury designation.

As NFL preseason play begins to ramp up, Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson reports that the Saints are in the process of signing the former Wildcat after a workout with the team.
The 6-foot-4, 289-pound defensive end initially signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He then played in the preseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021, his last stint in the NFL.
This past spring, the former Wildcat was selected in the third round of the USFL Draft by the Michigan Panthers.
During his time at Kentucky, Carter racked up 71 total tackles to go with 12.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and five pass deflections. He finished with 26 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks during final season in Lexington in 2019. The native of Mableton, Ga. played in 50 career games with 28 starts over the course of his four-year career.
Now, the former Wildcat hopes to find his footing in the league with the New Orleans Saints.
