Allen Robinson breaks down what stands out about Steelers QB Kenny Pickett
After spending just one season on the Los Angeles Rams, wide receiver Allen Robinson was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason for a swap of 2023 seventh-round picks.
Robinson has played with his fair share of quarterbacks throughout his nine-year NFL career, but this is his first year joining forces with Kenny Pickett. And on a recent episode of ‘The Rich Eisen Show’, Robinson told Tom Pelissero what stands out about the second-year hometown quarterback.
“The number one thing that sticks out to me aside from his talent is he’s a leader, and when I say a leader he’s a guy who has great command,” Robinson said. “And seeing the command that he has of a team as a second-year player it’s pretty remarkable, you don’t see too many guys be able to take the bull by the horns how he’s able to do that and kind of get the command out of everybody.”
Pickett took over the reins of Pittsburg’s offense in Week 3 last season, replacing Mitch Trubisky following a disappointing first half versus the New York Jets. He’d make his first start in Week 4 versus the Buffalo Bills, and would lead the Steelers to an 8-5 record as a starter in his rookie season.
Pickett particularly surprised some during the home stretch of the regular season, leading the Steelers to three straight victories. But according to Robinson, he’s pushing to put in the extra work to improve on the foundation he laid last season.

“That’s meeting wise, that’s pre-practice, post-practice, getting throws in after. It typically takes a little bit longer for guys to go through that maturation process and learn to take what they need and learn how to get some of the extra reps and steal some reps here or there,” Robinson explained. “But he’s already on top of that man, he’s been on top of that since day one that I got here and it’s fun to see.”
Robinson is coming off of one of the most disappointing seasons of his career, recording career lows in receptions and yards with 33 catches for 339 yards last year for the Rams. He’ll look to bounce back this season with some new scenery, joining forces with Pittsburgh’s young offensive core highlighted by Pickett, running back Najee Harris, wideout George Pickens, and tight end Pat Freiermuth.
“Just being out there with him each and every day man, I mean we’ve all as an entire unit have been progressive and that’s exactly what we want,” Robinson said.
