New story details Urban Meyer’s dysfunction, lack of preparedness for NFL

Urban Meyer’s time as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach may go down in history as one of the most tumultuous ever in the NFL. It’s certainly hard to argue that statement considering all of the negative spotlight that surrounded Meyer and the organization while he was at the helm for one season.
From violating NFL practice rules in the summer of 2021, to being caught on video inappropriately touching a woman who wasn’t his wife at a Columbus-area bar, and being accused of being abusive to his players, the Jaguars had no choice but to fire Meyer after one disastrous season.
Now, additional details are surfacing on Meyer’s negatives during his time in Jacksonville, as a story from The Athletic explains the coach’s dysfunction and lack of preparedness to work in the NFL.
In The Athletic‘s story, it shares that Meyer has been said to have been unfamiliar with some of the NFL’s star – and most notable – players, such as San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. In terms of Donald, Meyer reportedly had to ask who he even was at one point.

“Who’s this 99 guy on the Rams?,” Meyer reportedly asked a Jaguars staff member during the season, as The Athletic writes. “I’m hearing he might be a problem for us.”
Nothing positive came from Meyer’s time in Jacksonville, and details like not knowing primary NFL stars show just why. In addition to his off-the-field issues, Meyer struggled to lead the Jaguars to wins as he went 2-11 in his lone season.
Meyer’s success as a college head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State speaks for itself, but his short-lived NFL tenure is what everyone is talking about now – and rightfully so.
