Last night during the Last Chance Qualifier at Bowman Gray, it appeared Ricky Stenhouse Jr. cleaned out local hero Burt Myers. A new angle from the NASCAR race shows that Myers may be more at fault for his wreck than originally thought.

The Bowman Gray fans were furious. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. may have been the most hated man in Winston-Salem last night. Turns out, he wasn’t really the reason why Burt Myers slammed the wall.

Myers in the No. 50 car appears to come down on Stenhouse as they came across the start/finish line. That led to Myers slamming the wall and his car becoming engulfed in smoke.

This time around, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is going to beat the allegations. Although I don’t think that the fans at the Madhouse are going to care much. He is already a marked man for those folks.

Hyak Motorsports is off to a shaky start. Good news is Myers isn’t going to be racing every week on the schedule. So, that means retaliation is not likely going to happen. There are rumors that he could race at Martinsville later this season. But for the most part, Stenhouse is off the hook.

To be fair to the Bowman Gray fans, it looked bad at first. Myers slid through the infield and up into the Turn 1 wall. It was a huge hit that truly tested that newly installed SAFER barrier. Thankfully, it held up and Myers walked away under his own power.

Talk about getting the Cup Series experience in your first start.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. looking for second Daytona 500 win

Now, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has had good performances on short tracks. Let’s be honest for a second, it is the superspeedways where he truly shines. All four of Stenhouse’s wins have come at Daytona or Talladega.

Of course, the biggest of those wins was the 2023 Daytona 500. This season is pivotal for Hyak Motorsports, formerly known as JTG Daugherty Racing. Having success this season and attracting new sponsors will be key.

Stenhouse has more than earned his place in the Cup Series. He is a specialist, though. Drafting and throwing fists after the race are kind of his thing. I’m sure Stenhouse was happy that he was the one doing the punting this time on the short track and not the one being punted.

Less than two weeks, folks. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will make another attempt at winning the Daytona 500 and locking himself into the playoffs. He has about as good of a chance as anyone.
