New video shows Earl Thomas' 2020 incident with estranged wife involving gun, knife
New body cam video reveals more details into an incident involving former NFL star Earl Thomas and his estranged wife, Nina.
TMZ Sports published the five-minute-long video from an arrest that happened in April 2020 in Austin, TX. The body cam turns on as Austin police confront Earl and Nina Thomas, each of whom was armed. You can hear the policeman order the two “to drop their weapons and to get on the ground. Keep your hands where we can see them then we can figure it out.”
The couple are near a car. They remained calm throughout the arrest. “This is my wife,” the former Baltimore Ravens safety can be heard saying in the clip. “She caught me cheating.”
Earl Thomas earned All-American honors with the University of Texas. The Seahawks selected Thomas in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. And as part of the “Legion of Boom” secondary, he helped Seattle win a Super Bowl two years later. Thomas signed with the Ravens as a free agent in 2019. He played only a year in Baltimore, making his seventh Pro Bowl. However, his one season with Baltimore was a rocky one. He got into a fight with a teammate at training camp in August 2020. And the Ravens released him.
Earl Thomas was having issues in his personal life as well. Nina Thomas told police she thought her husband was having an affair, so she tracked his location via Snapchat and brought his gun with her. She told police the gun wasn’t loaded.
“My husband, we’ve been having problems,” she told police. You can hear the conversation via the body cam. “He’s been leaving all weekend. And he said he was hanging with some buddies and I didn’t believe that because we’ve had issues in the past. … I was calling, I was texting and I didn’t know which room it was. From pictures, I recognized the lights inside.

“The gun was a scare tactic,” she told police. “Like I said, there was no clip in it. … he took it from me, other than that, we were out here arguing.”
You can hear the policeman apologizing for pointing a gun at the couple. “But all I saw was him holding a pistol and you holding a knife,” the officer said. Nina Thomas said she brought the gun with her to confront her husband because she didn’t know what she’d be walking into when she arrived at the apartment.
According to police documents, Earl Thomas wrestled the gun away from his wife. The two moved the argument into the parking lot. That’s when someone called police. The police documents also indicated that Nina Thomas caught her husband in bed with another woman. When her husband snatched the gun away from her, she grabbed a knife.
Police arrested Nina Thomas, but they did not take Earl Thomas into custody. Nina filed for divorce later in 2020. A judge dismissed the criminal charges against her in 2021.
