Rookies Malik Nabers, Terrion Arnold involved in fight at Giants training camp with Lions
On Monday, there were several scuffles between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions during a joint practice during training camp in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Those apparently carried over into the team’s Tuesday practice together involving two rookies and former SEC foes.
Detroit defensive back Terrion Arnold was guarding Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers during Tuesday’s practice, and after an incomplete pass attempt to Nabers, fireworks erupted between both teams. Lions safety Kerby Joseph and Nabers exchanged punches before Arnold and several others jumped into the action.
Check out the altercation below.
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was targeting Nabers in the end zone during a team period on a back shoulder pass. Arnold altered that for a pass breakup to force an incompletion on the play.
Things seemed fine between Nabers and Arnold, who exchanged some words after the play and have squared off on numerous occasions during their college days as players for LSU and Alabama respectively. But as Nabers was jogging back to the Giants’ huddle, he threw an open-handed blow to the helmet of Joseph without breaking stride.
Naturally, that was followed by Joseph bringing the fight to Nabers and the two throwing several punches before Arnold, several other players, coaches, and personnel all got involved in breaking up the skirmish.
“I mean it’s it’s hot, we competing, stuff like that’s gonna happen. It’s football at the end of the day,” Nabers said following the practice.

Nabers made it clear that things were all good between himself and Arnold after the play despite what footage from training camp may depict. He added that Joseph said words to him that he would not repeat to the media that led to the fight with the former Illinois defensive back.
“Oh nah, the competitive me and Arnold you know, we talk almost every day about just competing, how great we want to be. So there’s nothing against him, he’s my brother so I’m gonna give him the work he needs, he’s gonna give me the work I need,” Nabbers explained.
“But I was just, I was tapping him on the helmet, good play. That’s all it was. And then somebody comes up running up to me, said a few words, and the rest is that.”
Yesterday several fights broke out between both teams during their first joint practice, one that even included Jones shoving a Lions player and Giants general manager Joe Schoen coming off of the sidelines in an attempt to help stop a scuffle between players. Which all in all will only make Detroit and New York’s preseason matchup this Thursday even more fascinating to watch.
