New York Giants set to hire Buffalo Bills coordinator as new head coach
The New York Giants have found their next head coach and they utilized a different perspective in finding him. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that sources believe that the Giants are working on a deal with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
The Giants have since confirmed the hire.
The deal with Daboll reunites him with an old friend Joe Schoen. Schoen is the Giants’ new GM and was hired on Jan 21. But the real big plus with the two is New York believes that they would have alignment with the direction of the team, as both worked together in Buffalo. And that bodes well for quarterback Daniel Jones, who recently received a vote of confidence from the Giants ownership. They still believe Jones is the long-term answer at quarterback for the Giants and were looking to find a general manager and coach to help turn around his rocky start to his NFL career.
Saquon Barkley’s future with the Giants
Saquon Barkley burst onto the scene his rookie season, electrifying football fans of all teams. However, injuries have dimmed his once bright star.
When Barkley came into the NFL, he was drafted as the No. 2 overall selection in the NFL Draft. Many believed that was simply too steep a price to pay for a running back, but former Giants general manager Dave Gettleman didn’t bat an eye. Now, Gettleman is retired, and Barkley is wondering what his future looks like.
Ultimately, the man who decides will be the new Giants general manager, Joe Schoen. After Gettleman’s retirement, New York embarked on a wide search for their next general manager. In the end, the proud franchise chose the former Buffalo Bills assistant general manager to lead their rejuvenation.

On Wednesday, Schoen had his introductory press conference. Of course, one of the questions on the mind of reporters was what the future of Barkley looks like, and will it be in blue.
“He was in the locker room yesterday, so I got to have a good conversation with him,” revealed Schoen, via SNY. “I’m excited about Saquon. When he came out, he was a rare talent. I know he’s had some injuries, and that comes with that position. We talked a little bit about where we may need to upgrade.
“I think if you upgrade the offensive line, that’s gonna help Daniel [Jones]and it’s gonna help Saquon.”
As you can see, Schoen believes Barkley has the talent to be one of the league’s best running backs. While he’s shown flashes in-between his injury issues, the former Penn State star hasn’t been able to put it all together since his rookie season. Time will tell if he can do so under new leadership.
