New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones took in a rowdy show at Forest Hills Stadium in NYC over the weekend. Country star Zach Bryan invited the Giants signal-caller on stage to sing one of his hit songs.

However, Bryan, an Eagles fan and Philadelphia resident, used the opportunity to blindside Jones with a “Go Birds!” in the middle of the song “Revival.”

The former Duke starter took the trolling in stride and continued the sing-along. Unfortunately for Jones, he’ll have to wait several months to pay back Bryan for his stunt. The Giants don’t play their NFC East rivals until Christmas Day. They see them again just two weeks later for their second matchup to close out the regular season.

After a tremendous season, Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract to stay with the New York Giants.

In 2022, he proved he was more than capable of being an upper-tier NFL quarterback, passing for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He rushed for 708 yards and seven touchdowns as well. Jones had the fifth-highest rushing average among quarterbacks last season.

The New York Giants went 9-7-1 but lost both games against the Eagles, first 48-22, then 22-16. Philadelphia added insult to injury when they faced off once again in the playoffs. The Eagles won 38-7 after piling on 28 unanswered points in the first half.

Expectations rising for Jones after new contract

In Pro Football Focus‘ pre-season quarterback rankings, the analysts have Jones as the 17th-best head into the new season. He is after the Seahawks’ Geno Smith and Lions’ Jared Goff, and before the Bears’ Justin Fields and Titans’ Ryan Tannehill. Jones is ranked below his top NFC East rivals, Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott, but ahead of young Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell.

Going into 2023, Jones is feeling confident and connecting with the new receivers on his team.

“We made a lot of progress,” Jones said after OTAs, via the Giants’ team site. “I feel like all the guys we’ve brought in are real pros from the sense of how they go about their work, how they study, how they work on the field, their attention to detail.

“You can tell watching film and just how important the smaller aspects of route-running, of the past concepts, you know, how in-tune they are with all that stuff. So it’s been fun working with them, and they’re really good players. I’m excited to continue working with them this summer and then into training camp.”
