Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has been selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was the No. 105 overall selection.

There are few running backs in ASU football history that accomplished quite as much as Cam Skattebo did, at least in such a short window amount of time. He shattered the single-season rushing touchdown mark for Arizona State, the single-season total touchdown mark, and single-season rushing yardage record. Even though he was only there for two seasons, he still cemented himself in ASU as one of the best players ever to suit up at the school, propelling them to the College Football Playoff this year.

He had a breakout season in 2024, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns in 13 games for ASU. In the Peach Bowl, Skattebo rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, caught eight passes for 99 yards and threw a touchdown pass. He became the only player in the country with 1,000+ rushing yards and 400+ receiving yards, even though he missed a game.

He finished with over 500 receiving yards for the season, which put him in even more exclusive company. Skattebo was the first player in the Big 12 to ever have at least 1,500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the same season. He was the first player to accomplish the feat in Division I-A since Christian McCaffrey did it in 2015.

Even in a loaded running back class in 2025, Skattebo still put himself in rarified air. He had four games with 200+ scrimmage yards this year, tying him with Omarion Hampton (North Carolina) for the second most in college football. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty ranked first, with seven games. As a receiver, he hauled in 45 catches for 605 receiving yards. He also finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting. He finished the 2024-2025 campaign with 338 total touches, 2,316 total yards and 24 total touchdowns.

In 2023, Skattebo had 164 carries for 783 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. As a receiver, he hauled in 24 catches for 286 receiving yards and one touchdown. Skattebo flew under the radar coming out of high school, ending up at Sacramento State initially, where he spent two years (2021 and 2022), but still put-up big-time production in 2022.

In 2022, he had 195 carries for 1,372 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. As a receiver, he had 31 catches for 371 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2022, guiding the Hornets to a 11-0 regular season record while propelling them to a No. 2 ranking in Division I-AA. In 2021, he had over 600 all-purpose yards and seven total touchdowns for the Hornets.

As a recruit, Skattebo put up prolific numbers for Rio Linda High School (Rio Linda, California). His junior season, the gifted running back ran for 3,550 yards and 42 touchdowns, leading his team to a state title. In the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2020 cycle, Skattebo was unranked.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Cam Skattebo

Here is the breakdown from Lance Zierlein of NFL.com with his thoughts on Skattebo leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. He compared him to Steelers running back Jaylen Warren.

“Carnage creator with a compact frame and elite contact balance. Skattebo can break through second-level tacklers and careen off of bodies for extended yards after contact. He reads his blocks quickly and is more elusive in the early stages of the run than he’s probably given credit for,” Zierlein wrote.

“He lacks top-end speed and will have to contend with bigger, better tacklers on the next level. Skattebo’s effectiveness as a receiver out of the backfield should add to his draft value. His physicality and edge should bode well for him as a complementary back with three-down value who is capable of helping an offense wear down the defense,” Zierlein finished.
