Report: New York Giants shifting interest to Aaron Rodgers after striking out on Matthew Stafford

The New York Giants chased Matthew Stafford and struck out. The veteran quarterback has agreed on a restructured contract to return to the Los Angeles Rams rather than exploring other opportunities. Now, New York is setting their sights on another experienced signal-caller, Aaron Rodgers.
That’s the latest from Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
“The New York Giants are now shifting their interest to Aaron Rodgers,” Russini wrote on X. “They’ve been discussing it all week in Indy per sources.”
Earlier this month, the New York Jets informed Rodgers they would be moving on from him this offseason. Since then, the 41-year-old has had calls made on his behalf to teams to gauge their potential interest, per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Multiple calls have been made to the Giants, Jones reported.
Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes heating up
Of course, joining the Giants would make things easy for Rodgers. He spent two years with the Jets after coming over from the Green Bay Packers, but his first season in New York ended on his first drive of the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury. In 2024, he threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, along with 11 interceptions – marking two straight full seasons with at least 10 picks.

Rodgers said in December that if he decides he wants to play in 2025, “New York would be my first option.”
“It feels good,” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I’m healthy now. … If I can stay healthy the rest of the year and play the way I want to play and everybody feels good about bringing me back, then there’s a decision there. And if not, then there’s all the other options. I think at this point I’m open to everything and attached to nothing. It’s a good place to be.”
New York looks like it’s an option; just not the New York team he likely imagined.
