Report: New York Giants work out Jake Fromm, AJ McCarron amid QB injury dilemma
After seeing both active quarterbacks go down on Sunday, the New York Giants have brought in several familiar faces to battle for a potential roster spot and opportunity to pick up an NFL start if Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor are unable to go by Sunday. Among the most notable options at the facility, former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm and former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron stand out.
Jake Fromm holds a familiarity with the current Giants staff, getting his first NFL shot as a backup under Brian Daboll with the Buffalo Bills in 2021. He appeared in three games, making two starts while accumulating 210 passing yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
AJ McCarron also knows Brian Daboll from his time on the Bills practice squad in 2018, the former offensive coordinator’s first NFL stint after a stop with Alabama. However, on the other hand the veteran has not appeared in an NFL game since 2020, when he saw action twice for the Houston Texans as a backup. He began the 2021 season as a backup for the Atlanta Falcons but suffered an injury which led to his release and a gig at ESPN breaking down college football.

Other players who the Giants brought in to work out on Tuesday include former Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke, former Alabama safety and one-time Giants star Landon Collins, wide receivers Victor Bolden and Jontre Kirklin, along with linebacker Ulysees Gilbert.

Jake Fromm gets second workout this week
The scary injuries to Tua Tagovailoa this week have caused major concern across the NFL. On a smaller scale, though, this changes the plans of the Miami Dolphins in the near future. They have already announced that he will not be available to play this weekend against the New York Jets. With no set timetable for his return, this has led the franchise to start looking elsewhere at QB.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Miami has worked out several prospects to prepare for Tagovailoa’s absence. The biggest name amongst the list is former Georgia QB and two-year pro Jake Fromm.
Fromm has spent the majority of his early NFL career bouncing around different teams, practice squads, and camps. This all comes after three years with the Bulldogs where he threw for over 8,200 yards and 78 touchdowns with a 36-7 record. The next stop on his journey now leads him to South Beach with the Dolphins.
