New York Governor Kathy Hochul issues hilarious warning to Steelers fans ahead of wild card matchup vs. Bills
When it comes to sporting events, politicians usually aren’t shy with a little bit of trash talk. And on Friday evening, New York governor Kathy Hochul had a funny message for Pittsburgh Steelers fans.
The weather is expected to be downright horrendous, blizzard conditions, with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour expected. The area is expected to get up to one to three feet of snow, over the weekend, per The Weather Channel.
In her speech, Hochul basically used the weather as an excuse to tell the Steelers fans to stay home, and decided to antagonize them even more by saying, “It’s going to be a tough game for you anyhow.”
Weather for the Steelers-Bills matchup
According to WABC: “Buffalo and Western New York could face dangerous blizzard-like conditions this weekend, setting the stage for what may be horrendous weather for the Bills playoff game against Pittsburgh. Bitterly cold air is expected to clash with intense lake effect snow that could amount to 1-3 feet.”
Those weather conditions sound absolutely awful, so it’s not exactly surprising for Hochul to tell fans to stay home, but it was the way she told Steelers fans to stay home that drove the message home. Just how bad are the conditions going to be?

Buffalo has posted that they’re looking for people to shovel snow, starting at 10 PM EST on Saturday night. Fans will be shoveling snow throughout the night in sub-freezing temperatures. Good luck getting people to bite on that one, especially for $20 bucks an hour and free food. Let’s not forget, the shovels are “complimentary”. At the very least, the NFL could offer up free tickets for the game. The people that sign up for that back breaking work are some of the true heroes of this year’s playoffs.
Due to the extreme weather conditions, Sunday’s game between the Steelers and Bills has officially been moved back a day, to Monday, January 15th at 4:30 PM EST.
The Steelers come into Sunday’s wild card game with a 10-7 overall record. Without a doubt their biggest missing piece on Sunday will be star linebacker T.J. Watt. The Steelers’ best defender has been ruled out ahead of the game with a sprained MCL. Watt suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in the Steelers’ 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens on January 6th. The Buffalo Bills have been one of the hottest teams in the league down the stretch, winning five straight games in order to punch their tickets to the playoffs.
