The New York Jets are starting to receive calls on their star wideout Davante Adams. New York is open to trading the star receiver before the start of the NFL season, according to a Sunday report from Ian Rapoport.

If the Jets can’t get a deal done, they are expected to release Adams, who could reunite with his old QB, Aaron Rodgers, with a new team.

“Sources say the Jets are now taking calls on the big name receiver, Davante Adams. My understanding is that this is process that’s going to go on the next couple of days. If they cannot find a trade partner for Davante Adams, I am told they are expected to release him. So, moving on from Aaron Rodgers. Moving on from his partner in crime Davante Adams, essentially. Came in together. Rodgers came in and midway through the year Davante Adams came in. Thought they would get there and do something special for the Jets,” Rapoport said.

“Did no transpire like anyone had thought. Rodgers now gone. Davante Adams expected to be gone as well. As well as a $35 plus million cap number. So, really no surprise. Most important thing here. Davante Adams is now on the move, as the Jets have a clean break and start free,” Rapoport reported from the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

In 11 games this year with the Jets, Adams hauled in 67 catches for 854 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

More on Davante Adams and his prolific career

The former second-round draft pick had his fifth 1,000-yard receiving season in 2023-2024 with the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams hauled in 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns. He managed to do that in the middle of plenty of upheaval from inside the Raiders’ organization.

Rodgers and Adams left the Packers as two of the best players in franchise history. The QB ranks No. 1 in career passing touchdowns (475) and second in total yards (59,055), while the wideout is second in receiving scores (73) and fourth in yardage (8,121).

Earlier in the 2021-2022 season, Adams joined some rarified air. The former Packers legend became the sixth player in NFL history with 600+ receptions, 8,000+ receiving yards, and 70+ receiving touchdowns in his first eight seasons. In checking off all those stat boxes, Adams joined a class of receivers that are all currently or will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Jerry RiceRandy MossCalvin JohnsonLarry Fitzgerald, and Marvin Harrison.

Once it comes time to hang up his cleats, there’s no question Adams will end up in the Hall of Fame. He has led the NFL in receiving touchdowns twice in his career (2020 and 2022). He’s also been named to the Pro Bowl six times in his career.
