The New York Jets have completed an interview with ESPN’s Louis Riddick for the team’s general manager position. This comes after the Jets fired Joe Douglas in November.

Riddick works as an NFL and college football analyst for ESPN and ABC. Before joining ESPN in 2013, Riddick worked in the front office for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders. From 2001 to 2004, Riddick was a pro scout for Washington. He was then promoted to director of pro personnel and held the position from 2005 to 2007.

In 2008, Riddick joined the Eagles as a scout before moving to assistant director of pro personnel in 2009. Riddick was then promoted to the Eagles’ director of pro personnel in 2010 and held that role for four seasons.

Over the last few seasons, Louis Riddick has interviewed for several general manager openings, including the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans in 2020. The 55-year-old also interviewed for the Steelers GM position in 2022.

Louis Riddick looking to turn the Jets around

If Riddick lands the role, he will replace Douglas, the Jets’ general manager for the last six seasons. During Dougals’ time as GM, the Jets didn’t have a winning season, and their best record was 7-9 in 2019 (Douglas’ first season). Phil Savage is currently the Jets’ interim general manager.

“Today, I informed Joe Douglas he will no longer serve as the general manager of the New York Jets,” said Jets Chairman Woody Johnson in a statement on Nov. 19. “I want to thank Joe for his commitment to the Jets over the last six years and wish him and his family the best moving forward. Phil Savage will be the interim general manager for the remainder of the season. We will begin the process to identify a new general manager immediately.”

The Jets are currently 4-12 this year and have lost six of their seven games. There were high expectations this season as quarterback Aaron Rodgers was returning to the lineup after suffering a torn Achilles last year. In 16 games this season, Rodgers has completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,623 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with an 89.1 passer rating.
