The New York Jets have made a decision regarding star wide receiver Davante Adams, releasing the 32-year old pass catcher, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s a move that will severely help the franchise’s cap situation, “The Jets will save $29.9M in salary cap space by releasing Davante Adams,” Schefter noted. “He had no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.”

In 11 games this year with the Jets, Adams hauled in 67 catches for 854 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Moving forward, the wide receiver could feasibly reunite with his old QB, Aaron Rodgers, with a new team.

The New York Giants have been floated as a destination for both players, and that would certainly be an ironic twist. Regardless, there will certainly be a myriad of teams interested in the star wide receiver, with a bevy of contenders sure to check in on the former Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders pass catcher.

One thing is for sure, it didn’t work out how Davante Adams would’ve liked with the New York Jets, and they’ve decided a clean break is what was needed to move forward. He’ll be hoping to rejuvenate his career elsewhere moving forward.

Moreover, the former second-round draft pick had his fifth 1,000-yard receiving season in 2023-2024 with the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams hauled in 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns. He managed to do that in the middle of plenty of upheaval from inside the Raiders’ organization.

When the duo of Rodgers and Adams left the Packers, they left as two of the best players in franchise history. The QB ranks No. 1 in career passing touchdowns (475) and second in total yards (59,055), while the wideout is second in receiving scores (73) and fourth in yardage (8,121).

Earlier in the 2021-2022 season, Adams joined some rarified air. The former Packers legend became the sixth player in NFL history with 600+ receptions, 8,000+ receiving yards, and 70+ receiving touchdowns in his first eight seasons.

In checking off all those stat boxes, Adams joined a class of receivers that are all currently or will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Jerry RiceRandy MossCalvin JohnsonLarry Fitzgerald, and Marvin Harrison.

Once it comes time to hang up his cleats, there’s no question Davante Adams will end up in the Hall of Fame. He has led the NFL in receiving touchdowns twice in his career (2020 and 2022). He’s also been named to the Pro Bowl six times in his career.
