New York Jets sign veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian ahead of Week 4
The New York Jets are planning to sign veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian this week, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Schefter reported Tuesday that the Jets will sign the former Broncos draft pick after he undergoes a physical.
The signing comes on the back of the Jets’ second loss of the year after losing star quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 1.
Siemian last saw action in 2022, playing two games for the Chicago Bears. He had 15 completions for 184 yards with one touchdown and one interception last season.
Since entering the league in 2015, Siemian has played for four different teams. He started with the Broncos, then joined the Jets in 2019, then the Saints, and finally the Bears. His return to New York marks his ninth year in the league. On top of the four teams the QB has recorded stats with, he’s also been on the Bengals and Titans rosters.
In May, Siemian signed a one-year deal with the Bengals for $1.3 million. They ultimately released him ahead of the regular season.
After missing the 2018 and 2020 seasons, Siemian’s career yardage is up to 7,027 with a 58.9% completion rate and 42 touchdowns to 28 interceptions. His best season came in 2016 when he posted 3,401 passing yards in 14 games with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Wilson struggles for Jets through three games
Turning to Zach Wilson after Rodgers’ injury, the Jets are now 1-2 on the season. It’s a far cry from where they’d hoped to be heading into the year after a well-documented training camp on Hard Knocks.
Through three games, the former first-round draft pick is 44-for-84 with 467 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s taken eight sacks, including three against the Patriots and three against the Cowboys.

Despite his struggles this season, and in the past, Wilson has his team’s support. Head coach Robert Saleh gave him another vote of confidence on Monday after the loss to New England.
“He’s our unquestioned quarterback,” Saleh said. “As long as he continues to show his preparation, the way he’s been practicing, and even in these games, he’s not the reason why we lost [Sunday]. It’s always a team effort. As long as he continues to show improvement, I know from a box score standpoint, it’s not showing, he’s going to be our quarterback.”
Rodgers shares recovery update
On Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show — as he does each week. While he didn’t really get into specifics about his status, he did provide an update about his recovery.
“It’s been operating. I mean, there’s been some good days and some bad days, for sure,” Rodgers said. “But last week was a good week of recovery and had a good day yesterday. Sunday was the lightest day since I started rehab, and also the worst day I’ve had in a while. Yesterday was a good day, today is a good day, making a lot of progress.
“Every day it’s something — a little less swelling, little more movement, little more mobility, little more strength. So, we’re building up. Just a process.”
