New York Jets waive QB Adrian Martinez

The New York Jets have waived quarterback Adrian Martinez, according to a report. He was among six players waived by the team Sunday in preparation for the 53-man roster deadline.
Martinez was a member of the Jets’ practice squad in 2024. He could potentially rejoin the practice squad for this season once he clears waivers if the teams wants him back.
Martinez began his college football career at Nebraska in 2018 but played his final college season at Kansas State in 2022. He was undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft before later signing with the Detroit Lions. However, he was cut from the team and spent the 2023 season with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
Although he returned to the league last season, Martinez has still not appeared in an NFL regular game during his career. Based on the recent move from the Jets, it seems unlikely that he will this season either unless another team picks him up.
Adrian Martinez did get quite a few reps this preseason for the Jets, though. The QB appeared in all three of the team’s preseason contests to finish 30-of-51 passing for 352 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
But New York is set to go into the season with Justin Fields as its starting quarterback. The Jets also have Tyrod Taylor and Brady Cook as backups and decided to cut ties with Martinez for their 53-man roster.

In addition to Martinez, the Jets also waived defensive end Michael Fletcher, offensive tackle Liam Forandel, tight end Zach Kuntz, defensive back Tanner McCalister, and running back Lawrance Toafili. New York also released linebacker Jamin Davis.
Jets release linebacker Jamin Davis
New York announced their waiving of Davis in a release on Sunday. They did so amongst a list of seven total players that they removed from the team ahead of the regular season to get down to a 53-man roster by Tuesday this week.
Davis, a linebacker out of Kentucky, was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Washington Football Team, and now since the Washington Commanders. He’d spent three and a half seasons with the Commanders, posting 282 total tackles, seven sacks, six deflections, two forced fumbles with a pair of recoveries, and two picks over 36 starts during 50 games played, before being released back in October of 2024.
Davis, the former first-rounder, is still yet to turn 27 years old. That could make him an option still for another franchise in the future with him able to be added at some point amidst all the roster moves coming out of the preseason in the National Football League.
