New York Liberty select Jessika Carter in second round of 2024 WNBA Draft

Mississippi State center Jessika Carter was selected in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty, who took her with the No. 23 overall pick.
The Liberty will be getting a good one.
Carter was a two-time second-team All-SEC selection as a center, checking in at 6 foot 5. Her height made her one of the most difficult players in the Southeastern Conference to match up with.
On the defensive end of the floor, Carter was a monster. She was a member of the 2023 SEC All-Defensive team, though she didn’t make that squad as a senior in 2024.
The Mississippi State standout scored 20 or more points in a game 14 times in her career. She was also a 1,000-point scorer in her career.
During her senior season in 2023-24, Jessika Carter averaged 14.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 assists per game. She could really fill up the stat sheet.

Carter logged 13 double-doubles during her senior year for the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State failed to reach the NCAA Tournament this season, but Carter was instrumental in the team’s run to the WBIT quarterfinals. She averaged 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds during the three postseason games, while also chipping in five assists and four blocks.
Twice during her career Carter was named the SEC Player of the Week, earning those honors in December 2022 and November 2019.
That helps illustrate the kind of longevity that Jessika Carter had in her college career, something that should help her transition to the next level fairly seamlessly. She’s got plenty of quality experience.
That’s one of the main reasons the New York Liberty selected her.
