New York Liberty select Marquesha Davis in 2024 WNBA Draft

Ole Miss small forward Marquesha Davis has been selected by the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Marquesha Davis played the first three years of her college career at Arkansas before she transferred to Ole Miss for the final two seasons. She was able to play a fifth season thanks to the COVID-19 Pandemic season, which didn’t count against college athletes’ eligibility.

For the 2023-24 season, Davis was a First-Team All-SEC performer. She was one of two Ole Miss players to earn that honor for the season, in what was an excellent season for the team. The team went 24-9 and made it to the second round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament. That came a year after the program went to the Sweet Sixteen, which was the deepest run the team has made since 2007.

In her two seasons at Ole Miss, Marquesha Davis played in 67 games with 59 starts. That included starting all 33 games that she played in her final season with the program. During that final season, she scored 14 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. She also shot 44.7 percent from the field and 23.9 percent from three-point range.

Prior to going to Ole Miss, she spent three seasons at Arkansas but played notably less during that time than she did at Ole Miss. As a Razorback, Davis played in 51 games and for one start. She averaged 10.7 minutes per game while at Arkansas, and had 4.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game during that time.

Ole Miss’ season and, consequently, Davis’ college career ended at the hands of Notre Dame in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. That game was a difficult one for Davis, with the Irish doing their best to shut her down in the game, and held her to just six points and three rebounds in 29 minutes played.

Still, that was one difficult game, and Marquesha Davis had several other key games where she was phenomenal for Ole Miss. That included the Florida game in the SEC Tournament, for which head coach  Yolett McPhee-McCuin praised her fourth-quarter performance.

“The conversation with Que was, ‘When you leave Ole Miss, you’re gonna leave with a bang,’” McPhee-McCuin said. “I said, ‘Go out with a bang.’ Well, Marquesha’s a first-round draft pick, in my opinion. And I told her not to leave any doubt at any point this tournament.”

Now, Marquesha Davis is going to be taking her talents to the WNBA where she will hope to provide plenty of production moving forward.
