The New York Yankees have released a statement condemning the actions of two fans who interfered with a ball during Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night. After a report indicated they would be banned from Game 5, the team confirmed before reminding people of their stadium policy on interacting with players.

“Last night two fans were ejected from Yankee Stadium for egregious and unacceptable physical contact with Dodgers outfield Mookie Betts,” the statement said.

“The safety and security of players, fans and Stadium staff is the foundational element of every event held at Yankee Stadium, and it cannot be compromised.

“Tonight marks the final home game of the year, and we want every ounce of our fans’ passion on display. Yankee Stadium is known for its energy and intensity, however the exuberance of supporting one’s team can never cross the line into intentionally putting players at physical risk.

“The Yankees and Major League Baseball maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward the type of behavior displayed last night. These fans will not be permitted to attend tonight’s game in any capacity.”

Two Yankees fans interfered with Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts, even grabbing onto him in an attempt to steal the ball from his glove. Security immediately escorted them out of the stadium and now, they are not coming back for Game 5.

This was the second time a fan has interfered with a ball in the World Series, occurring in both Dodger Stadium and Yankee Stadium. Funny enough, New York second basemen Gleyber Torres was involved in both but with mixed results. Game 1’s incident was ruled a double but Torres was out following these two fan’s involvement.

Moving forward, the Dodgers are just one win away from bringing home another championship for the franchise. While those two fans will be hoping the Yankees can send the series back to Los Angeles, they will be watching from somewhere else. And everyone inside the organization is hoping nothing occurs on what could turn out to be a massive night for baseball.
