The NFL is considering discipline against Seattle Seahawks (3-1) safety Jamal Adams for his actions toward the independent concussion doctor appointed by the NFL and NFLPA during the 24-3 win over the New York Giants (1-3) Monday.

Adams, who suffered a concussion just nine snaps into his season debut, yelled at the concussion doctor on the sideline after exiting the blue medical tent. Members of the Seahawks’ medical team had to hold Adams back before escorting him to the locker room.

On the opening drive of the game, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones attempted to scramble for the first down. Adams made the first down-stopping tackle but struggled to get back up to his feet and needed help getting off the field. The 27-year-old took a knee to the head and appeared dazed afterward.

Head coach Pete Carroll believes Adams should be good to go in Week 6 when Seattle returns from its bye.

“He got kicked in the head and so he misses this game, but the preparation to get him to this and then with the week coming off, he’s going to be fine, I’m sure, and then be back out there,” Carroll said Monday, via ESPN. “So it’s just a little glitch right now.”

Jamal Adams contemplated retirement after serious leg injury

Monday night was Adams’ first game back after tearing his left quadriceps tendon in last season’s opener. Adams spoke to the media Friday for the first time since the injury and admitted he found himself in a “dark place” which led to thoughts about retiring from football.

“I thought about retiring,” Adams said. “I thought about a lot of things. Is this going to be it for me? I didn’t know. But I knew eventually, after I got that MRI, I told myself I’m going to be back. I didn’t know when or how, but I was going to figure it out.”

Adams, who missed just two games over three seasons with the New York Jets, has missed 28-of-53 possible regular season games since the Seahawks acquired him via trade in 2020. The former All-Pro said that the multitude of injuries he’s suffered over the past three seasons took a toll on him mentally.

“I was having all types of thoughts running through my mind, but at the time when I did tear my knee, that was definitely something I was considering,” Adams said. “I was considering everything at the moment… Was in a dark place. Not on anything suicidal, but definitely in a lot of dark times as far as getting away from the game of football, getting away from people. At the time I wasn’t really talking to many people, wasn’t answering my phone. So you go through real life situations in this game of football.”
