With the college football season in the rearview mirror, the best players are now turning their attention to the NFL Draft and their professional futures. That includes Penn State Nittany Lions edge rusher Abdul Carter, who expects to be a high first round selection.

NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, while making an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, shared that he thinks Abdul Carter is actually the best player in the 2025 NFL Draft. That makes him a threat to be taken first overall.

“For me, Abdul Carter is the best player in the Draft,” Daniel Jeremiah said. “So, when I heard that and blue player, elite player, someone who is going to step in and be a Pro Bowler right out of the chute. That was what I heard.”

The Tennessee Titans have the first overall pick and a need at quarterback. Despite that, there are two players in Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter that could have them move away from the idea of taking a quarterback with that top pick.

“To me, Travis Hunter is so unique in how you can use all the different things he can do. So, that at least perked me up a little bit that this might not just be whether it’s Cam Ward vs. Shedeur [Sanders], they have a need at quarterback. It’s going to be one of those two guys. That perked me up a little bit to say maybe they’re taking a long-range view and just taking the best player,” Jeremiah said.

“To me, Abdul Carter at a premier position, I would argue the second most important position on the field, to have a guy at that level of a talent, I’d be all in on that.”

Since getting to Penn State, Carter has been a dominant player. Then, in 2024, he became known as one of the best players in the country, regardless of position. He finished the season with 24 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He also had four passes defended on his way to an All-American season. Then, in the Orange Bowl, he played well with an injured arm, which Daniel Jeremiah noted he was also impressed by.

While quarterbacks are often early selections, it seems like there are four players competing to become the top selection in the NFL Draft. That includes Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, the quarterbacks. Then, Travis Hunter is an incredibly unique talent. Finally, Abdul Carter, who may be the best talent in the entire draft. That should give the Tennessee Titans plenty of options with that first overall selection, including trading the pick to another team.
