Drake Maye is like any other NFL Draft prospect. The former North Carolina star doesn’t know where he’ll be playing this fall.

But he does have an idea. As the top NFL Draft prospects gather in Indianapolis this week for the annual scouting combine, everyone figures Maye will end up in one of three places: Chicago, Washington, or New England. Those are the teams with picks 1-2-3. All probably need new quarterbacks, although the Bears could decide to keep theirs and trade out of the pick.

Word got out Tuesday that Maye won’t be working out in front of scouts. He’ll save that for his pro day. But it doesn’t matter. Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, the other two top quarterbacks in the NFL Draft, aren’t throwing, either. The same three teams still will need quarterbacks, no matter what happens in Indy. Plus, this draft is heavy at the top with offensive players. A defensive player is not expected to go amongst the top 10.

Maye appeared on The Adam Schefter podcast. And he talked about what he knew of each of the three teams that could select him on NFL Draft day.

On Chicago:

“Just such a great history,” Maye said. “You know, a sports town, one of the great sports towns in the country. And I think you’ll be saying … their fans are unbelievable. Just such a history and not just in football, you know back when they had Michael Jordan. Great player there and Chicago has just such a great fan base. … The Windy City is … just hard nosed football, you know. They find a way to win.”

On the Commanders, his likely landing spot, as of now. But the NFL Draft can be tricky, so remember that.

“You know, I grew up around the area … where Coach Gibbs resided, back where his grandkids grew up, Maye said. “Grew up with those grandkids, so we got to know them and follow the Redskins during that time. Also another historic program. You know, Coach Gibbs, back in the day, had a great success. And now, change the name to Commanders, but great city, obviously great. So I’ve been there a few times. … And another great fan base …. where they get rowdy in there.”

Then there’s New England. The Patriots may go away from a quarterback at this spot. There’s a chance the Patriots look for a playmaker like Marvin Harrison Jr of Ohio State.

“It’s hard not to talk about the dynasty. … you think of the GOAT. They could do anything with the GOAT Tom Brady, so it’s just a place that has seen a lot of success. They haven’t been as successful lately and are looking to get back on track.”

It’s very unlikely that Mayes will drop out of the top three. The NFL Draft is April 25-27.
