NFL Draft guru: Dallas Cowboys should trade up for Travis Hunter

The Dallas Cowboys have been quiet this offseason. Signings have been minimal, and those new faces are under one-year deals.
There’s one last chance for the Cowboys to make a splash — next month’s NFL Draft in Green Bay. NFL Network‘s Daniel Jeremiah is calling on Dallas to be aggressive and find a way to land Travis Hunter.
“I miss the days when the Cowboys were aggressive & fun. Spice it up. Trade up for Travis Hunter,” Jeremiah wrote on X.
The Cowboys have a need at receiver alongside CeeDee Lamb. They have a need at outside corner with Trevon Diggs undergoing knee surgery in January. Hunter fills both needs. The former Colorado standout won the Heisman Trophy playing both ways and wants to continue playing both positions in the NFL — if a team will let him.
“Nobody has done it, but I feel like I’ve put my body through a lot,” Hunter said at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. “I do a lot of treatment; people don’t get to see that part. … But I know I can do it. In college football, we rarely get breaks, but there’s a lot more breaks in the NFL.”

Can Cowboys pull off trade to draft Travis Hunter?
But Hunter is projecting to be a top five pick. The Cowboys have the No. 12 pick. Dallas also owns the No. 44 overall pick (second round), as well as the No. 76 selection (third round) if they wanted to use assets to trade up for Hunter. Whether a team picking that high is willing to pass up on the chance to land what could be a generational player is a different story.
Hunter made a name for himself in college by being a two-way star in Boulder. That’s especially after this season where, at receiver, he posted 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns and, at cornerback, tallied 36 tackles, 11 deflections, and four interceptions. That won him the Heisman and Bednarik Award, earned him honors as an All-American, and put him as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said last month the team would be “selectively aggressive” in 2025. If they want Hunter, that better change.
“We’re gonna look at everything we can. “We’re going to be selectively aggressive,” Jones said. “…You have certain amount of resources they’ll allow to have. We’ll look at that, but we’re going to try to improve our football team, not try but we’re gonna improve our football team. We expect to have success next year.”
