NFL fines Kansas City Chiefs, Peyton Hendershot for sideline shove on Roquan Smith
The NFL fined the Kansas City Chiefs organization and tight end Peyton Hendershot $5,472 for a shove on the sidelines last week that angered Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith in last week’s NFL kickoff game, sources told Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network on Saturday afternoon.
Hendershot does plan to appeal the fine.
Roquan Smith wasn’t fined for his contact with Patrick Mahomes on the play, but the NFL did fine him $16,883 for unnecessary roughness on a different play—a horse collar tackle he made the first quarter of the game.
Hendershot spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, where he had 15 catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns in the past two years.
Chiefs and Ravens delivered yet another classic
The Chiefs defeated Baltimore 27-20, but it was extremely close in the final seconds of the game. Lamar Jackson threw a pass in the back of the end zone to tight end Isaiah Likely, who acrobatically tapped both feet down in the back of the end zone while bringing the ball in. But unfortunately, one foot was just barely out of bounds. Officials ruled it was a touchdown catch at first, which would have tied the game after the extra point. It was a razor thin margin. But, the play was reviewed, and officials confirmed the correct call, his foot was just barely out of bounds.

Likely was dominant for the Ravens, hauling in nine catches for 111 receiving yards and a touchdown, while barely missing the one in the final seconds. He also made one of the best plays of the game when he hauled in a 49-yard touchdown catch, shook a couple of Chiefs defenders in the open field, then completely slammed on the brakes at the goal line. A Kansas City defender flew by him and Likely cruised into the end zone.
Rashee Rice led the Chiefs receivers, hauling in seven catches for 103 yards. Rookie wideout Xavier Worthy also had a flashy debut, scoring two touchdowns and racking up over 60 all-purpose yards. Both players are expected to be big stars this year for Kansas City and if Thursday night was any indicator, they’re going to be extremely difficult to defend on the field together.
