Cooper Kupp is officially a free agent, and a surprise team is making a push for the former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dallas Cowboys are attempting to sign the Super Bowl LVI MVP.

“Developing: A sleeper team that has emerged and is now making a push to sign former Rams free-agent wide receiver Cooper Kupp is … the Dallas Cowboys, per league sources,” Schefter posted on X. “Kupp’s decision on where to sign could come as early as today.”

Kupp’s an exciting option, but last season was not the best for the veteran wide receiver, as his 710 yards were the second-lowest of his career. He still surpassed the double-digit yards per reception mark at 10.6, totaling 67 catches. Six touchdowns is not too shabby of a number as well, too considering some of the injuries he dealt with.

Still, the Rams felt the need to move on from Kupp. Now, the Cowboys are seen as a fit for multiple reasons. Dak Prescott is in desperate need of some offensive firepower other than CeeDee Lamb. Wide receiver should be an area addressed in the 2025 NFL Draft, but multiple capable bodies would not hurt. Even if Kupp were to produce his down-year numbers, it would be a massive upgrade for the Cowboys.

Jalen Tolbert finished last season as the team’s second-leading receiver with 610 yards and seven touchdowns. A touchdown streak came late in December while Cooper Rush was the starting quarterback. Brandin Cooks, the perceived No. 2 receiver, did not produce much after dealing with injuries. Lamb continues to be one of the game’s great players but needs a partner in crime.

The move could certainly happen, but Schefter is telling Cowboys fans not to hold their breath. He added more: “While the Cowboys made what one source described as ‘a push’ for Cooper Kupp,” Schefter posted on X, “They still are not considered the likely landing spot for the former Rams wide receiver, per source.”

Regardless, a big bounce-back season could be on deck for the former first-team All-Pro and AP Offensive Player of the Year. Somebody is going to be grateful to add Cooper Kupp to their roster, but it remains to be seen how much interest the Cowboys truly have in the wide receiver, and whether it’s mutual.
