NFL free agent Kyle Van Noy and his family have made it through an emotional health scare this week. The former Chargers linebacker posted on social media that his son, Trae, suffered a perforation in his small intestine and an infection, but after 10 days in the hospital, the young boy is returning home with his family.

“This last week has been long & emotional yet rewarding for our family,” Van Noy shared. “Our son Trae had his tonsils removed on Friday and it was a successful surgery. We went home and He started throwing up an abnormal amount. We ended up taking him back to the hospital where they went the rounds of test all day. The doctors came to the conclusion that our son needed emergency surgery.

“Trae was found to have a rare congenital anomaly in his small intestine that was perforated and causing a serious infection. They performed another successful surgery on Saturday, the day after his tonsil surgery.”

“Trae has been extremely brave & strong and after a long 10 days in the hospital and a lot of scary moments trying to get his body to respond to the antibiotics, we finally get to bring him home,” Van Noy continued. “Those words have never been sweeter! My family and I are extremely grateful for the doctors, nurses and everybody at CHOC hospital in Orange. I can’t say enough nice things about the people that work there.

“Lastly I want to give you my testimony on prayer! This makes me emotional talking about because Trae is the sweetest boy and to see him at the point he was at crushed us- but we prayed and prayed! Prayer has always been a key component for my family and myself individually! I truly believe God hears you when you talk to Him. I promise you that if you pray He will listen! He’s always there!! Even when you don’t think He is or you don’t think it’s worth it, He is listening. I promise He hears you. He answered our prayers for the last 10 days. Our son is coming home!!!”

Van Noy hits free agency

Van Noy just wrapped up his first and only season with the Los Angeles Chargers. After his one-year deal ran out in March, he hit the free agency market. In 2022, the former second-round pick out of BYU posted 46 tackles with five sacks.

Drafted in 2014 by the Detroit Lions, Van Noy heads into his 11th season in 2023. He’s played for the Lions, the Patriots, the Dolphins and the Chargers so far. He won two Super Bowls, the first in 2016, with the Patriots.

In March of 2020, he signed a four-year deal with Miami for $51 million, however, they released him a year later after a six-sack season.
