The NFL dished out a fine on Saturday to 49ers left tackle Trent Williams. The league fined him $11,817 for the punch that got him ejected last week. Chiefs safety Bryan Cook, who appeared to punch Williams first, was also levied a fine. He was fined $8,442.64. The information was relayed on Saturday afternoon by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Things were simply a disaster in every way, shape, and form on Sunday for the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Brock Purdy threw three interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs, and they couldn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the football. Frustrations boiled over when star tackle Trent Williams got into a scuffle with Chiefs safety Bryan Cook. Cook decided to take a swing on Williams first, and then, Williams retaliated with a punch of his own.

Trent Williams was immediately ejected from the game.

It certainly doesn’t make any sense to take a swing at a player with a helmet on, especially a mammoth like Trent Williams. He’s a future Hall-of-Famer for a reason. And he happens to be one of the biggest and strongest guys in the National Football League.

The 49ers had just about everything imaginable go wrong for them on Sunday. They lost to the Chiefs 28-18, lost receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season, Deebo Samuel was dealing with an illness, and Brock Purdy played well below standard.

Trent Williams agreed to a contract extension in September

The San Francisco 49ers and their All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams agreed to a contract extension in September, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported.

The 36-year-old had three years remaining on the six-year, $138.1 million deal he signed in March 2021. There was no guaranteed money left on his deal, however, and Williams wanted to restructure. He was holding out of training camp as a result.

Williams has been dominant since arriving in San Francisco in 2020, earning Pro Bowl honors in each season. He has been named a First-Team All-Pro in three consecutive seasons, allowing just two sacks over that timeframe. Despite his status of being the NFL‘s best left tackle, Williams, who has a 2024 base salary of $20.05 million, saw several others leapfrog him this offseason.
