NFL hits Cowboys QB Trey Lance with steep fine for unnecessary roughness on sideline hit vs. Eagles
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance has been fined over $20,000 for a hit he delivered against Philadelphia on Sunday. Lance was attempting to track down Reed Blankenship following a turnover from Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson. While getting Blankenship out of bounds was successful, Lance used his helmet to make the play.
So now, there will be a nice chunk of change coming out of Lance’s pocket.
“This is a new one: The NFL fined #Cowboys QB Trey Lance $22,511 for unnecessary roughness (use of helmet) on the play where he knocked #Eagles safety Reed Blankenship out of bounds,” Tom Pelissero said via X.

Lance did not get too much playing time but still walked away with a hefty fine. He is now playing the backup role in Dallas as Cooper Rush is considered the starting quarterback. Dak Prescott is out for the rest of the regular season due to an injury.
However, it was the first action Lance did get in a Cowboys uniform, not including the preseason. Four of his six passes were completed, going for 21 yards and an interception. Known for having the ability to make plays with his feet, Lance added 17 yards on the ground.

And there is a tackle on the stat sheet. Quite the costly tackle as well.
With or without the fine, all attention in Dallas has shifted to Monday night. A game against Houston is upcoming as the Cowboys are hoping to break a four-game losing streak. Lance will once again be a part of the game plan but head coach Mike McCarthy is keeping Rush as the starter.
McCarthy is also hoping for no more turnovers and putting quarterbacks in a position to tackle people. But if they do, making sure some money stays in the pocket should be a goal moving forward.
