NFL insider: Former Mississippi State star could be a coveted trade target this offseason
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport believes Eagles star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox could be on the move. According to the NFL insider, the former Mississippi State star was almost dealt at last season’s trade deadline. Now, teams could rekindle offers for the dominant defensive lineman.
“With all these big names being dealt, who could be the next? Last year, #Eagles Pro Bowl DT Fletcher Cox was nearly dealt at the trade deadline, and teams around the league have continued to call on him,” tweeted Rapoport. “Considering the D-line movement around the league, it’s something to watch.”
Throughout his career, Cox‘s home has been Philadelphia. Drafted with the No. 12 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, the former Mississippi State star has cultivated a legacy with the NFC East franchise.
Since the Eagles selected Cox, he’s accumulated numerous accolades. First, he’s a Super Bowl champion, helping deliver Philadelphia their first Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LII. Additionally, he’s been recognized for his play, as Cox is a former First-team All-Pro, and a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
If Philadelphia elects to trade Fletcher Cox, it’ll mark the end of an era. It’s an important storyline to watch as the NFL offseason progresses.

More on Fletcher Cox, Philadelphia Eagles
Fletcher Cox would immediately boost any defensive line he joins. Whatever team trades for the former Bulldogs star, they’re getting a bonafide animal to help their defense.
Moreover, the statistics back up Cox‘s reputation. Over the course of his career, the former All-Pro has accumulated 443 total tackles, 58.0 sacks, 13 forced fumbles and three defensive touchdowns. He’s a play-maker along the defensive line.
The Eagles made the playoffs following the 2021-22 season, but Philadelphia was dismissed easily by the Buccaneers. Now, it turns out that fateful day in Tampa Bay could be the last time Fletcher Cox suited up for the Eagles.
