The Dallas Cowboys are working on contract extensions with two of their star players in receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler joined SportsCenter Saturday morning and shared the latest on where things stand with those talks. According to Fowler, extending Lamb is the top priority for the Cowboys at this point.

“Talks are ongoing with both Lamb and Dak Prescott on new deals,” Fowler said. “I was told that from Dallas’s standpoint, Lamb is probably a little more urgent, a little closer to getting done, but nothing to the finish line yet. He continues to wait.”

CeeDee Lamb is set to make nearly $18 million in 2024 after the Cowboys picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. However, the former Oklahoma star is seeking an extension worth significantly more money.

To this point, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys haven’t been in a big hurry to work out a deal with Lamb.

“Jerry Jones said that he’s not going to be moved by preseason games to try to get this done,” Fowler said. “So they’ve waited this long. The Cowboys kind of sell like, ‘Hey, look, it’s great to be a Cowboy, we’re comfortable waiting this out to get a deal that we can feel both sides get a win.’”

According to Fowler, Lamb has other ideas. He feels that there is a clear market for top receivers and he should get paid like one.

There are currently four receivers in the NFL making at least $30 million per year and Lamb feels strongly that he should be added to that list.

“Well, Lamb’s like ‘Look, my market speaks for itself, my numbers speak for itself. This is pretty clear cut,’” Fowler explained. “The number’s going to have to have a 3 in front of it and it’s going to have to be massive on a per year average.”

It will be interesting to see how contract negotiations with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb play out in the coming weeks.

Lamb was one of the top receivers in the NFL last season, catching 135 passes for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. It was his third consecutive season with at least 1,100 receiving yards.

In fact, the 25-year-old led the NFL in receptions last season and finished second in the league in yards behind only Tyreek Hill.

As for Prescott, he is in the final year of his four-year, $160 million contract that he signed in 2021. Prescott has consistently played at a high level, and he finished third in the NFL in passing yards last season. He also led starting quarterbacks in completion percentage and touchdowns.
