NFL insider: Kellen Moore is ‘a top candidate’ for Dallas Cowboys head coaching position
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is a “top candidate” for the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching job, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said Friday.
The Cowboys requested an interview with Moore, who is expected to meet with Dallas “imminently.”
“The offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles is someone I would consider to be a top candidate for the Cowboys position,” Rapoport said on Good Morning Football. “They requested the interview with him last among the ones they’ve requested — they also have Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier — in part because they know him so well.
“He was a player there, he grew up as an assistant, they’ve seen him as an offensive coordinator. They know what kind of a leader and what kind of a coordinator Kellen Moore can be. They’re expecting to interview him imminently.”
Cowboys, Kellen Moore reunion on the table?
Moore, 36, would overtake the Seattle Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald as the youngest head coach in the NFL. A former Cowboys quarterback (2015-17), Moore joined Dallas’ coaching staff as quarterbacks coach in 2018. The following year, he was promoted to offensive coordinator, a role he held through the 2022 season.
Dallas owned the league’s No. 1 ranked offense in 2019 and 2021 under Moore. But after some regression in 2022, Moore and the team mutually agreed to part ways. Moore quickly landed another play-calling job with the Los Angeles Chargers under head coach Brandon Staley. The Chargers averaged just 20.4 points per game, though quarterback Justin Herbert missed four games due to injury that season.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni hired Moore as offensive coordinator after the season, and the offense took off in 2024. The Eagles finished with the No. 7 ranked offense during the regular season and the No. 2 rushing attack in football.
Moore has familiarity with several of Dallas’ offensive stalwarts, including quarterback Dak Prescott, receiver CeeDee Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson, making him a name to watch in the Cowboys’ coaching search.
The Cowboys, who parted ways with Mike McCarthy on Monday, will interview former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh on Saturday and Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier on Monday. Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders has spoken with team owner Jerry Jones and is the most high-profile candidate for the job.
